OK, thanks. I really should have started a new thread for this, would have been clearer.

I'll give that a try and let you know.

Thanks, that does seem to have done the trick. This looks like an older driver, but main thing is, it works.

I'm now installing 64-bit windows. All is OK with the drivers except that when I try to install the USB3 TI one, I get a message that says:

No compatible hardware found on your system

Please make sure that a TI USB 3.0 Host Controller is present on your system.

Indeed, the two USB ports on the left of the box don't work. This was also the case with the previous 32-bit install, but I didn't investigate at the time as it wasn't a definitive installation.

I would be grateful for any help.

Does your Intense PC machine incorporate Intel's chipset native USB3.0 ports or work via TI's USB3.0 Host controller?

Please send:
1. Intense PC model, PN and SN.
2. CPU + SCH chipset model

Thank you for your answer. I'm afraid I'm not really sure how to answer all your questions though, in particular, the first one. What is SCH?

It may be worth mentioning that although I do have a working 64-bit win7 installation on the machine, there is also Linux, which is what I mainly use and could be easier for diagnosis.

Here is the info I found on a sticker on the bottom of the box:

PC Pro 8GB Linux (though not Mint any more, it's Slackware)
SN: 1130206-05839
PN: D4X2 - C3617V - H600 - WB - XLM - FM4U

lspci | grep USB turns up several results mentioning 'intel corporation panther point USB controller' or something like that; let me know if you would like more detail.

EDIT

As may be obvious, all works fine in Linux - it just doesn't work in Windows. So it doesn't look like a hardware problem.

SCH is system controller hub, Intel's chipset (a companion chip to the CPU).
C3517V - is Intel Core i7 CPU that comes with Q77 chipset and has native USB3.0 ports.
Your system doesn't have TI at all, and requires Intel's USB3 drivers - please download Win7 drivers:
