HDMI /displayport @ 24 Hz , 59Hz or 60 Hz?

Post by babashi »

I'm using the HDMI port for ASUS PB298 (2560 x1080), does the HDMI of IPC2 support 59/60 Hz? or it's using the max 24Hz as listed on IPC2 wiki?

I've tried the displayport (60 Hz) , but there's no sound and couldn't detect the speakers from the monitor like the HDMI could :(

Max display resolutions are as written in spec tables:
HDMI 1.4a up to 4096 x 2304 @ 24 Hz
DisplayPort 1.2 up to 3200 x 2000 @ 60 Hz

You may lower the resolution and increase the refresh rate - it is a matter of allowable bandwidth.

HDMI up to 4096 x 2304 @ 24 Hz<-- is that means by using HDMI I can only get 24Hz at any resolution or as long as the resolution is under 4096 x 2304, I can get 60Hz?

The bandwidth of digital video signal consists of several components:
  • Number of pixels on screen matrix (W x L) (or horizontal synchronization signal - depending on signal type)
  • Number of encoding bits per pixel for luma (brightness) and chroma (color)
  • Vertical synchronization signal (refresh rate)
So in general if you reduce one of the above you can increase the other (to keep the product). Of course it also depends on specific display drivers constraints as well.
