Inexpensive commerial option to add IR capability to Fitlet

Post by richar »

We are currently looking at a roll out of between 100 and 700 Fitlet iA10s at a client. We have successfully used Flirc with MintLinux, but with a cost of USD$23 per unit, and them being an item that members of the public may find desirable and could easily steal off the players, I am looking for alternatives.

We have made requests on Alibaba with companies that do USB IrDA LIRC compliant dongles at a cost of approximately $2 (bulk price) but are still waiting to hear back.

For Rasperry Pi we have seen people using it's GPIO connector with the TSOP38238 infrared receiver module e.g. https://learn.adafruit.com/using-an-ir- ... r/hardware and are thinking something similar might be possible with the Fitlet.

Has anybody tried this, or has another alternative for good value IR control of the Fitlet? (that we could eventually get in bulk)

Thanks for your help.
