BIOS upgrade gone wrong (yeah, my fault)

Post by Jimbo »

Just wondering how bad this is...

So.... I was updating the BIOS a fitlet2 (rev 1.1 I believe). I was following the guide from the wiki and everything was going fine and got to the last step (reset) and because I was distracted, I had a brain-fart and instead of "reset", I "exit"ed instead back to the BIOS where I think I must have "save & exit"ed.

The machine restarted and seemed to boot fine and was then powered off. However, subsequent attempts to boot it result in very little happening - power light comes on, LED1 and LED2 very briefly flick on, no display output, no BIOS screen, no USB keyboard action and, fairly obviously, no booting.

I've attempted the BIOS troubleshooting/reset steps from the Wiki (removing storage, DIMM, RTC reset, etc) but to no avail.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what I could try or is it just most likely that I've completely corrupted the flash?

Thanks in advance!

Please try the following:

1. Disconnect the DC plug
2. Disconnect the RTC backup battery
3. Wait for 10 seconds
4. Boot without the RTC battery (plug the DC)
5. If the machine shows proper functionality then power off the machine and remove the DC cable and finally return the RTC battery and turn on the machine.

Hi Tamir,

Thanks for the suggestion, but, unfortunately, the same behaviour - power light comes on, LED1 and LED2 flick on briefly, but then nothing.

I also tried those steps, but also tried without the storage, without the DIMM and without both the storage and DIMM.

Same behaviour for all configurations.

Is there anything else I can try?

Cheers!

Ok, well, without any further suggestions, I guess I'm out of simple options (or even relatively complex ones for that matter).

The DIMM and SSD have been moved into another Fitlet 2 and that is working fine, so I'm "good" in that respect. I just have a new paper weight...

I guess there isn't any other way to perform a BIOS recovery?

If there are any other suggestions, I'm happy to try them.

Assuming you have a Keyboard with num lock LED indicator.
If the machine booted and you are pressing num lock, do you see the indicator LED responding ?

Right now I don't have a DIMM in the machine - do I need one to perform this test?

Without a DIMM, the Capslock and Numlock leds do not activate with key presses.

When I did have a DIMM in, I was using a keyboard with only a Capslock led and that was not activating when the key was pressed (with DIMM and SSD in the Fitlet2).

Cheers!

I have consulted our R&D regarding this.
Unfortunately at this point there's nothing much we can do to support remotely.
I suggest to schedule RMA for this machine.
Please follow the RMA procedure documented at the following link:
