Post New fit-PC2 display problems
Hi I have been testing my new fit-PC2 for a few days and have stumbled on a few problems.

fit-PC2 with 1.6 Ghz processor
Windows 7 Home Premium
Samsung 500GB hard disk
Built-in WiFi card

Display Card/Drivers:
I installed the Windows 7 Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500 drivers found on this website, but I have the following problems,

(1) A box (windows) sometimes pops up saying that Windows has found the computer's performance to be slow and suggests to disable Aero and use the Windows 7 standard theme instead. I click ok to go ahead and it goes to W7 standard, but the next time I start the computer it is back to Aeoro. This is a combination os two issues, a) is the fir-PC2 turbo really too slow for Aero? b) and why does it not stay in Windows 7 standard after a re-boot?

(2) The display driver was reported as "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel(R) LDDM Ultra Mobile Media stopped responding and has successfully recovered". Is this a hardware problem?

(3) On my second day of testing I was watching a movie using VLC which is my preferred quick media player and it worked very well. Yesterday I started a movie with VLC and the sound was totally broken and jumpy as well as the picture. I figured it could be due to heat and switched the computer off during the night. This morning I started it again and the problem is still there. I updated VLC to the latest version - no change. I am not running any other programs, and I have tested with a lower display resolution. However, when I play the movie using Windows Media Player it works really well. Question, VLC did work the first two days I had the computer, but now no more, and why does WMP work?

- Change the theme in display options. It will stay that way after reboot.
- The VLC problem is definitely not heat related. fit-PC2 is designed to be always-on. More likely a filter/codec installation issue. Maybe re-installing VLC may help.
- WMP is using DXVA acceleration and VLC doesn't. In general WMP is expected to provide better performance.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

So you agree that the fit-PC2 is not fast enough to run in Windows 7 Aero mode?

I did uninstall the older VLC totally before installing the new one.

In general the whole display feels very sluggish, and testing some more movies today with WMP they have good sound but also sluggish video.

I think my next step will have to be to remove the Intel drivers and test the native Windows display drivers, although they don't allow 3D and Aero at all so that is a step in the wrong direction.

Aero does work, but is eating into system resources making video playback sluggish.

There is no point in removing Intel drivers. Microsoft drivers are worse.

Currently the best alternative for fluid video playback is fit-PC2 XP HD.

Hi Irad,

I have been running tests all day because I was not happy with the display issues, and I also found that the computer was using quite a lot of CPU cycles even with no programs running and nothing happening at all.

What I have found so far is:
1) Update the Intel Graphics driver to version 8.14.10.2020 which is available on their website. It does fix the broken sound problem when using VLC but full screen VLC is still a bit out of sync.

2) Set the "Performace Settings" to "High Performance". Strangely this makes the computer use less CPU cycles in idle mode.

I have a brand new hp netbook with an Intel Celeron 1.2GHz and Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family. Aero is very fast, VLC works beautifully in full screen mode, and the CPU goes down to 0% most of the time when I leave it be even with Windows 7, avast anti-virus, WiFi connection and lots of programs and services open.

I think that the fact that Aero makes video sluggish on the fit-PC and that the solution is to use XP is disapointing and should be noted on your order/information page. Perhaps a Celeron should be considered for future models.

I am now rebuilding my fit-PC2 driver by driver and will report if I find anything else useful.
