Re: Boot on USB ? on microSD ?
fit-PC2 can boot from various USB devices (thumbdrive, hdd, CDROM) or Ethernet. It cannot boot from SD.

Re: Boot on USB ? on microSD ?
thanks, for that very quick answer On my laptop I test a system on USB thumbdrive but it was very slow comparing to an harddrive system, I also use Ubuntu 8.04. Do you think that I'll have the same slow speed, is it normal ? Can I fix it ?

Re: Boot on USB ? on microSD ?
I'm betting your slowness has more to do with the usb-drive and the way the software is configured rather than the computer it's attached to.
There are a few ways to improve performance of a system running off a thumb drive, but what in particular is 'slow' for you? are you talking about slow booting? slow processes running? is your usb-drive rated for fast writes (compatable with vista's memory cache, etc) or an older drive?

Re: Boot on USB ? on microSD ?
What exactly is the purpose of this miniSD slot? Here's the roundup of information I gathered: - it is a miniSD - you hardly can buy those cards any more, so you need to get a microSD with an adapter - it does not support SDHC, so 2GB is the maximum - you cannot boot from it
Is this all correct?
Why did you put such a useless thing in there. You could have gone for a microSD slot, with SDHC support, or get rid of it altogether, and make those USB ports in the front in normal size.

Re: Boot on USB ? on microSD ?
We are going into design considerations here... - USB A connectors cannot fit without enlarging the case - microSD is too delicate for such a case - Full size SD does not fit - The SD interface is built-in and costs next to nothing to bring out - It supports SDIO The miniSD socket is useful for several applications, nobody is forced to use it.

Must a "special" USB optical drive be purchased to enable boot capability? Or will any optical drive that connects via USB enable booting / operating system installation?

Re: Boot on USB ? on microSD ?
Any USB CD-ROM / DVD-ROM should do the job. Just change the BIOS to boot from USB CD-ROM first.
