Post Intel GMA500 issues
I have the following problem with my fit-pc2:
-i purchased the linux version, when i got it, i wiped the drive and installed XP on it. Install went with no problems.
-downloaded all the drives for XP, installed them with no problems
-the problem is when i open Intel GMA tool and i click on Information, my computer gets rebooted. when i try to play an .mkv file (with mplayer) i get a reboot. when i use GPU-Z, all i get is the splash screen and then PC freezes (cant do anything, i need to reboot).

It might be a problem with the chip?
Any ideeas?

Thanks.

I confirm that my reviewers also experienced the same problems with factory-preinstalled (from Compulab) Windows XP:
1) Clicked on "Information" in the Intel GMA tool - system rebooted (but looks like a problem with the tool and not with Fit-PC2)
2) Tried GPU-Z - system got stuck (but it's a problem with GPU-Z and not Fit-PC2 - it just does not support this chipset - my suggestion is to write the authors of GPU-Z and ask for support - I did the same for CPU-Z which also does not support Atom Z530 correctly - now I got a patch and testing it)
3) Mkv plays fine though - you need the codecs which cost money and are supplied with Windows XP-Codecs version, and also Matroska splitter to play them correctly

OK, will send feedback to both tools.
as far as the .mkv files, i downloaded the trial of Cyberlink PowerDVD 9, and i am not able to play mkv files. i used also MatroskaSplitter and still not able to play.
maybe i am doing something wrong and someone can point me to the right direction.
if i need to buy the codecs or something, let me know witch ones, and i will buy them.

Compulab ships the WindowsXP units with OEM Cyberlink codecs - the private users cannot buy them separately. But you can buy the entire PowerDVD which has those codecs (but it has to be the very-very latest build since they released them only around 3 weeks ago).

PowerDVD does not play .MKV out of the box - so you need the Haali Matroska Splitter. I can direct you to the steps to perform if you had the OEM Cyberlink codecs since that is what I have - sorry cannot tell you what to do with the entire PowerDVD.

Start by checking which PowerDVD version you have
http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/supp ... en_US.html
Only PowerDVD 9 build 1719 and later (or PowerDVD 8 build 2815 and later) has support for GMA500. Also not sure that the Trial version includes that support (?)

Then I suggest download the latest k-lite codec pack, and install only the splitters inside of it (during installation time, uncheck all the codecs and check all the splitters). One of the splitters there is Haali Matroska Splitter, make sure it's checked too.
This was the solution for me. Now .MKV plays smoothly.

I have just played with DXVA acceleration (in Media Player Classic HomeCinema) on my Fit-PC2, and about half of the files I tried worked (though a few didn't display properly with DXVA enabled). Would PowerDVD's decoder have greater support (right now I didn't install anything special - just the Intel drivers and MPC-HC from the latest CCCP beta)?

Oh, and I'd stay far away from K-Lite.

i am able to play HD content with CyberLink PowerDVD 9 and Haali Spliter.
-however in order for me to see HD i need to rename all my .mkv files to .mp4 or .mov
-i am not able to hear sound on any of the clips that have DTS audio encoding (no problems with AC-3)

any idea why do i need to change the format from .mkv to ,mp4 or .mov ?

thanks.

Something is wrong with your setup, but hard to tell exactly what.
I do not need to rename my .MKV files - they are played in HD as is.

Since you would probably need to perform a clean Windows install again anyway, I suggest you download k-lite codec pack as I wrote above, and install the splitters and the tools. There is one tool in the pack called "k-lite graph studio". Install it and then open each file with it. It will build you a nice diagram how each file is decoded. Check that the path is like you expect (that the video passes to Cyberlink codec and that the audio has a codec to play too). It helped to resolve my problems as well since I was able to see how each file is played, then install/uninstall more codecs and check again.

I can also confirm the same behaviour: reboot when Information button is clicked and GPU-Z utility hanging up on launch. So I don't think this is a hardware issue, but a driver bug on relatevely new platform. Hopefully it will get fixed.
