Fit-PC2 optimized Kiwilinux 9.04 iso available

Post by startit_ltd »

Dear Guys,

I made a Kiwilinux 9.04 remaster iso some weeks ago to get a fresh, customized new system is some minutes.

KiwiLinux: this is a Ubuntu 9.04, with extra repositories, improved Hungarian/Romanian support, English also available.

Key features of this remaster:
* Full Ubuntu 9.04 compatible
* Includes the fit-pc2 kernel and all drivers and mplayer-vaapi
* Includes the necessary lines for fit-pc2, chromium, virtualbox-3.0 in sources.list
* Includes the xorg.conf
* No need to customize the installation, because everything already customized.
* Probably DVD-RW is required instead of CDRW, due to the size of the image (>800MB).

Tested:
* I used this iso image to create a bootable 2GB pendrive.

Download here:
http://www.fit-pc2.hu/Letoltesek/fit-pc ... r.kiwi.iso
http://www.fit-pc2.hu/Letoltesek/fit-pc ... wi.iso.md5

Please test it and tell me your opinion.

Ciao,
István

Less than 4GB I guess. This kiwi does not contain more packages, but fresh ones.

I'm a WinXP user but I would really like to try this Linux distro out. It sounds interesting but what to do with the .iso?

I tried burning a DVD but my burner software tells me this compilation needs a CD. There is not enough space on a CD.

Can you please change it so I can burn it on a DVD?

Also can you please tell me how to run it from a USB-stick?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Aura,

Thank you for your response!
First, you should read this to know, how to write out an ISO file under windows:
http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm

To "burn" an iso into a usb pendrive, check this out:
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

I will check what really needed a CD or a DVD. I do not use DVD or CD disks in general, so, I recommend to use a pendrive instead.

Cheers,
István

does your kiwilinux has opengl drivers?
I was not able to display well opengl applications in wxp.
Is there any update for your customized kiwi?
is there wine preinstalled?
it's very nice to have this anyway thanks!

Dear gashiss,
The opengl is not so strong in fit-pc2.
In winxp I used an old opengl game called max payne 2.
You can install kiwi 9.04 yourself easily just follow the 9.04 install manual.

I had a problem with the customization process, so, I remove the iso, sorry about that.
Anyway, I still use this kiwi 9.04, with wine, even virtualbox installed.
Cheers,
István

What did you used to build up your custom livecd?

I tried using 'remastersys -dist' in ubuntu 9.10 still the custom fit-pc2 drivers & kernel got out of the outputed ISO...

I used the same tool as you, but there was something wrong.
If I will have some time, I plan to create ISO from 9.10.
Maybe some eye-candy tool will be used on it.

I provide to my customers some fsarchiver disk images... this also need more freetime or donate ;)

HEW? What was wrong? Wasn't it the good --option ?

Can you please explain us how did you make your custom livecds with embedded fitpc2 drivers? Or at least give us a link?
