Using a USB wifi dongle with slackware and kernel 7.2.1

Post by vtailor »

Basically, the Realtek line of USB wifi dongles all have problems on any slackware you can name, which even means the z530 has problems. There is one fix for realtek dongles: Download a plausible Linux driver from realtek headquarters in Taiwan. Un tar-gzip it. Then, copy the enclosed firmware over into the following directory:

/lib/firmware/rtlwifi

You should get better results after rebooting. It's not perfect, but it is definitely the fault of the manufacturer that there are Linux problems, which also appear on other Intel systems.
