Beep?

I have had Fit-PC Slim a few years now. I run it as a Linux server and it has been working well, but now it started to make a beeping sound. The interval of the sound is random (from few minutes to hours). Does anyone have any idea what could cause this sound?

fit-PC Slim does not have built-in sound. If the noise comes from the fit-PC itself and not from speakers - then it must be the hard disk. Usually the sound is "clicking" and not "beep". This indicates that the hard disk is aging - it would be good to backup all important files you have on it, and prepare to replace the hard disk in the future.

My Fit-PC is not connected to speakers, so that's not the problem. It took some time even to locate the source of these mysterious "beeps" :) Anyway you are probably right, the hard drive is at it's end. Thank you for your fast reply.

Is there any recommendations or limitations for a new hard drive? Anything else than that it should fit in the Fit-PC?

Hard disk should be IDE, 2.5", standard thickness - 9.5mm.
It is recommended to use 5400RPM or less to keep cool.
