Switching between WiFi and Ethernet causes connection delay

Post by brebey »

When I switch between WiFi and Ethernet, there is an unpredictable delay between the time I bring the new interface up and the time I can once again ping or otherwise connect to a certain destinations on the network.

Usually, these things clear themselves up after as many as 5 minutes.

It isn't the whole network that's unreachable, though...it's only certain addresses. I can always find a couple things to ping on the network; I just can't get to everything right away.

It smells of a caching problem of some sort. I've tried flushing the routing table ["ip route flush table main"] between bringing one interface down and the other up, but that didn't seem to do any good.

Any idea what's causing some addresses not to be reachable when I switch interfaces?

Thanks for any help!
