Stereo audio through mic

Post by losttime »

I can't seem to get my fit-PC2 (linux version) to record stereo sound.

I just got it in the mail yesterday and ran the package manager to make all the updates. I hooked up a headset with a boom mic and I can't seem to get stereo sound out of the mic.

The headset and mic work find in Windows (play and record in stereo). I've tested the headset and mic in Linux (Fedora 12) on my main desktop and they work fine there too. On my fit-PC2, the headset plays stereo sound, but all I get is the left channel from the mic.

I've pushed the mic connector in as far as it will go. Any suggestions for me?

Hey losttime ..

What linux version are you using ? Ubuntu 8.04,9.04,9.10,10.04.

The only thing that I can recommend is to click on the speaker (that is usually in your top most right, and find Input tab, there is likely 4 tabs, and see if somehow the L/R slider, slide all the way to the Left ... This could be the problem, or a problem with the MIC port.

Since you have eliminated the headphone/mic, it could be the MIC jack.

Here is website that maybe able to assist (bit of a long shot).

9812713, thanks for the advice.

I've played around with the sound preferences and the alsamixer and nothing I tried could get the right mic channel working. I switched over to the line-in jack and suddenly I had full stereo sound.

I tried the same thing yesterday, but I bet my unamplified mic wasn't able to produce a signal for the line-in jack (I'm somewhat ignorant about sound equipment). Today I hooked up my iPod, and the line-in loves it.

Since the box will by recording amplified sound, this should work for me, but I'm still left thinking my mic jack has a problem.

FWIW, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10.

After I got sound input working through the line-in jack I wound up removing pulseaudio from the system. It was blocking another sound programs access to ALSA. I was having trouble with the mic jack before I removed pulseaudio and am still have the same trouble now.

Hi,
Indeed Realtek ALC262 codec on fitPC2 can not record stereo sound through Mic in. It's a HW issue, not related to software configuration. Use Line-in instead.
