fitpc2i 160GB hitachi failure

Post by axcoco »

I'm trying to install a fresh ubuntu but It won't detect the 160GB hitachi HDD. How am I suppose to do ? It was working fine with ubuntu that came with it.

Detection is needed with cd installation
So this patch is useless for me. Still cant find any solution to install ubuntu server to HDD...

The problem is that ubuntu installation does not detect slave disk, if I install on the Flash disk, then I can mount the HDD in fstab after the installation, but I want to install ubuntu on the HDD not the on flash memory

Here is the solution:

1. Get an USB-SATA adapter.
2. Take the internal HDD out and connect it using the USB-SATA adapter.
3. Install Ubuntu on the HDD connected using the USB-SATA adapter
4. Apply the patch. (easiest way is just to follow the instructions on http://www.fit-pc2.com/wiki/index.php?t ... buntu_9.10 under the heading of Required system changes. That will install a precompiled kernel with the patch).
5. Now you can place the HDD in the fit-pc2i and boot.
6. Enjoy.

This is by far the easiest way to overcome the install glitch. Of course you could also build a customized install cd with the patch as for example described here http://www.fit-pc2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1561.

Good luck,
Roberto.
