how to switch off monitor ?

Post by lucian »

with linux mint and x-serverr running i can switch off the monitor (even remotely) with

> xset dpms force off.

however, when the x-server is not running, the monitor is always on, with black background.

is here any way to switch the monitor off, without the xserver running (and eating resources) ??

I have two computers on my monitor, the fitpc2 as server and the second as working computer. If i switch the working computer on, the monitor stays black, since he still has the signal from fitpc!

edit:

the login manager only switches the display blank but not off. still looking for solution for that.

however, with

DISPLAY=:0.0
export DISPLAY
xset dpms force off

I can switch it off now.

Hi Lucian - I use the following:

/usr/sbin/vbetool dpms off
