Linux kernel build descriptions

Post by pto »

It would certainly be valuable to have more insight into how the Linux kernel of the Ubuntu 8.04 recovery image is build, especially if I have to patch my kernel due to security issues.
Can you describe which patches, and which compile options have been selected compared to the Ubuntu or vanilla Linux kernel?

You can get kernel sources on our PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~fitpc2/+archive/ppa/

linux_2.6.24.7.orig.tar.gz includes kernel configuration in .config

Perhaps I'm missing the obvious but I don't see that package...

You need to download the file linux_2.6.24.orig.tar.gz and linux_2.6.24-34.7~1fitpc2.diff.gz

Unzip both of them and apply the patch. The config file is now at:
debian/config/i386/config.386
