It would certainly be valuable to have more insight into how the Linux kernel of the Ubuntu 8.04 recovery image is build, especially if I have to patch my kernel due to security issues.
Can you describe which patches, and which compile options have been selected compared to the Ubuntu or vanilla Linux kernel?

Re: Linux kernel build descriptions
You need to download the file linux_2.6.24.orig.tar.gz and linux_2.6.24-34.7~1fitpc2.diff.gz
Unzip both of them and apply the patch. The config file is now at:
debian/config/i386/config.386
