Mint vs. Debian on Fit-PC2

We have some Fit-PC2s currently with Linux Mint 9 on.

We are looking to upgrade to a newer OS, and are considering either the latest supported version of Mint (13?), or Debian.

Are there any pros and cons in this choice? Is Mint recommended just because it is the default choice for the machine? Does this give any specific advantages?

Thanks.

Mint is supported and drivers should work out of the box.
I cannot comment on performance.

I've just installed latest Debian Jessie 8.2 LXDE - it works out of the box (also video with 1920x1080). I have not measured performance but it feels very smoothly :)
