Controlling LEDs

Post by uservm »

Hi,

we are planning to use FitPC2 for an embedded linux server application, without monitor, keyboard and mouse, only power supply and LAN cables are connected.
We are investigating how to give a simple local feedback during server installation or software upgrade.

From another post in this forum we already know that FitPC2 unfortunately doesn't have an internal speaker:

Our idea now is to control one of the 3 FitPC2 LEDs from a linux user-space application or from a shell script.

Can anyone address us to do this?

Thank you

It's probably hard control any of the LEDs. Instead you could buy a USB-LCD and print stuff to it. It's also possible to build your own (Google gave me this: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=115461).

But why not use the LAN and check the status remotely?

Thank you for the very interesting link, may be in the future we can add a USB-LCD device like that.

I agree with you; at the moment the LAN method seems the only way to give feedback to the user in absence of a monitor or a speaker.
