Regarding "reboot instead of shutdown", the patch will be pushed to mainline kernel soon, to all stable versions starting from 3.0. I believe Ubuntu and other distributions will pull this patch shortly. You can look at the patch here:

Regarding graphic problems please try 3.4 kernel ... 4-precise/
It contains many important drm and video acceleration fixes, may be it will help.

Thanks so much Denis! Actually, for me, kernel version 3.0 had the same fault, as did version 3.4, and 3.5 was slower still. However, I'm now running 12.04 with version 3.6 RC5 ( ... 5-quantal/ ) and it appears to be working a treat, albeit with stability issues that one would expect of a release candidate* (so at least it looks good for 12.10 when it's finally released).

I'm prepared to wait for the reboot patch as it sounds like there shouldn't be long to wait (and I'm not sure how easy it would be to apply it).

* one time I booted, and it was very slow, but rebooting it again it was fine.

Anyway, thanks again. All said, the Intense PC is a fantastic piece of hardware.

By the way, are there any known issues with sound not working on the Intense PC's?

Post Re: Tested Linux distributions
Been working with kernel 3.6 rc5 for a little while now, and it has also fixed the shutdown issue, and seems to be running fine (so far).

Re the sound: the start-up sound works, but it's not working when I'm logged in. I can get sound with:

aplay -D plughw:0,0 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

The output of aplay -l is:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC888 Analog [ALC888 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC888 Digital [ALC888 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
  Subdevices: 1/1

So it's not selecting the correct output device, but what I'm not sure about is how to select the default card's device as it's not showing in the settings.

[UPDATE] I found out that the sound was working with Guest, and I fixed the issue with "rm -rf ~/.pulse" as my user and logging out and in again.

Everything appears to be working fine now :)

I had similar problems with sound on my new Intense PC Pro after I first installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. Since I run the Ubuntu 3.6.2-030602-generic x86_64 (64 bit) kernel ( ... 2-quantal/) and control the volume with PulseAudio installed from the Ubuntu software center, sound works fine for me.

Thanks for a very nice low power high performance PC.
