Clues to why the z510 has Windows 8 problems

Post by vtailor »

On a "hunch", I brought the chipset driver into my Downloads directory and unzipped it. Then, I went to the Device Drivers and started methodically attempting to update the generic Microsoft drivers for things like IDE, PCI, and USB. I had a cluster of successful updates for USB drivers in the System Devices section, exchanging generic Microsoft drivers from 2006 for Intel SCH drivers. When I restarted, I noticed a significant improvement in things like Time to unzip. I haven't completed testing, but you may want to try this out. The idea was not to run setup.exe for the chipset, although that might work also.

In most of my other installations, the generic Windows 8 drivers turned out to be best. Not with the z510, however.
