| OpenBSD (-current, and probably 4.2) boots and installs fine using PXE. X doesn't work, but Marc Balmer said it is on his list of things to do at some point. The amd driver for X needs an MSR interface that only works on Linux. |

| For general information here, it appears the above mentioned work has been done (although is still being improved), but X should now work on the fit-PC. Can anyone test snapshots and confirm? |

Hi,
I got OpenBSD 4.3 up and running on my fitPC (without X, working as firewall/NAT). |

| I just finished an OpenBSD 4.3 install on my FitPC, too, although I ended up having to boot the installer from a USB floppy drive as I couldn't the FitPC to boot from my usual thumb drive. Current plan is to use it for firewall/NAT/DansGuardian proxy. |

I got my fit-pc slim yesterday and will install OpenBSD on it as soon as I figure out how to do a pxeboot. I've been reading the FAQ and man pages, but my brain just can't figure it out. As soon as I do figure it out, I'll post the dmesg of a recent snapshot.

|
|
I bought the fit pc to replace a big, hot, and noisy pc that I use in the living room while watching TV. I've been using openbsd since 3.9 as my operating system of choice. The primary use of this computer is web browsing and email. Occasional uses will be to listen to music, watching video, and looking at photos.
So far the fit pc gives me the same experience for web browsing and email as my old computer did. By-the-way, X configured itself automatically and set up the proper resolution for the monitor I'm using.
Audio is a different story. There is a very faint, high pitch tone coming from my speakers. When playing an ogg file from mplayer, the audio is "muddy" sounding, for lack of a better word. I remember playing media files when the original Ubuntu installation was on the fit pc, and I don't remember any audio quality problems. I suppose it may be the openbsd driver, it is relatively new.
I'll update the review as I learn more things. |
