Installing FreeBSD on fit-PC is a nightmare. Its firmware objects to the FreeBSD pxeboot loader, and after much fiddling with pen drives and PXE boots I gave up and pulled the drive out. Dropped it in a PC with sensible BIOS and all sorted with minimum aggro 
Interestingly, Googling for some of the boot errors I got when trying to PXE boot yielded some large chunks of the closed-source BIOS code, perhaps someone could fix the bugs they have such a problem with

I have installed pfsense which is based on freebsd on my fit-pc and it now an excellent router.
It has increased my d/l speed from 2MB per sec to 2.2MB per sec. Webpages load very snappy and overall it is by far the best router I have ever used.
To install the OS I used a method described elsewhere in this forum.
I took the hard drive out of the fit-pc. I got an 2.5inc to ide converter from maplin.co.uk for £9.99
I attached it to the primary ata socket in a standard pc. I installed pfsense. Then put the hard drive back into the fit-pc. It booted just fine and I just reconfigure the network interfaces.
PFsense works great and is so easy to use. |

Yeah, i finally installed freebsd from usb cdrom using boot-only iso for booting and full system install cd for install after booting. Booting from install cd didn't work. |

I installed FreeBSD 7.1 today - no problems at all.
The only thing I have found so far is that I can not enable the WiFi card.
I get:
ugen0: <Ralink 802.11 bg WLAN, class 0/0, rev 2.00/0.01, addr 2> on uhub1
And:
