Many of our solutions require a front-end PC, which we fulfill with Dell PCs. I purchased a fit-PC2 a few weeks ago for evaluation, and I must say I’m very impressed. I am urging our salesmen and engineers to consider implementing the fit-PC2 instead of the Dell PCs – especially in situations where a full-blown PC is overkill, or in environments where a standard desktop PC could be subject to too much stress.

This is a computer that really fits everywhere. In your car, on the back of your monitor or just, as in our case, on a beer mat. It’s a fully equipped PC with the specification of a standard netbook (Atom 1.6GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD) and the dimensions of a 5-port Ethernet switch. The most astonishing fact about it is that it uses standard size 2,5″ notebook harddisks.

It’s an amazing engineering feat, and because it uses less power than even the average router you can leave it on all day without worrying about your electricity bill or the environment. I’d highly recommend this as a download machine or a lightweight home server. Simply put it somewhere out of sight and have it handle your torrents. Or you can attach an external hard drive and use it to store (backups of) your files.

And if you’re running a business it may be worth considering that these machines pay for themselves. If I’d replace my current desktop PC with a Fit-PC2 it would save around $100/year on my utilities bill. It’ll run office software with ease.

The Fit-PC2 has an awful lot of potential. It seems like a solid product, that pretty much delivers the goods.

It is an innovative product with a good combination of size, horsepower, and cost. I’m anxious to see where Compulab takes this market.

This is the perfect little project platform. It’s capable of playing H.264 encoded 1080p HD video while drawing less than 7 watts. That’s awesome! It’s ideally suited for media playback application.

This little box would make a great little Asterisk server.

fit-PC2 with Turnkey Linux

I run 5 small sites on a single Fit-PC running Tunrkey Linux (http://www.turnkeylinux.org/).

The server has no fan, is not much bigger than a deck of cards and has been quietly working away at 3W for the past year.

This computer completely exceeded all of my expectations.

It’s biggest, and most initially unnoticeable benefit compared to a regular computer is that it makes almost no sound at all. I’ve been using this system for about a week now, and when I switch on my laptop to transfer some of my files, the laptop seems annoyingly loud in comparison.
