Re: READ_DMA TIMEOUT/FAILURE's and g_vfs_done() I/O errors

Sorry, by AC i didn't mean "Alternating Current" but "Air Conditioning" ... i was refering to a heating problem. Well, both units are on a PC laptop cooling pad, and only feel warm to the touch. Also, the log that John send earlier showed that the max temp of the disk drives was less than 40C, I th...

We're not using X, so I can't confirm or deny this.

Re: READ_DMA TIMEOUT/FAILURE's and g_vfs_done() I/O errors

Both machines were plugged into the same UPS (1500 Watt, 300 WH), and remember, they don't have the power-on reset feature, so there was no "real" power failure. Of course, that doesn't rule out a glitch getting through the power supply. There doesn't seem to be an event log on this UPS that I can f...

Re: Display driver - GMA500

I'm not familiar with this particular problem, but is sounds like the problem you are running into is called "Overscan". Old analog and new digital TV's expand the picture a bit (usually five to seven percent) so the formerly (in the analog and VHS tape days) ugly edges of the image are trimmed off....

Re: Just tried to install FreeBSD on Fit-PC2

Or do what I did, and buy a $15 USB to Ethernet adapter. The cheapest one I found that worked at 100baseT under FreeBSD was the Trendnet TU2-ET100 at about $15 at Fry's. They had a cheaper ($10) Trendnet unit (the part number is very similar, TU-ET100C), but it only worked at 10baseT with FreeBSD. J...

Re: Just tried to install FreeBSD on Fit-PC2

Upgraded to 7.2 over the Internet, and unfortunately, No Joy on the internal Ethernet (RealTek), sorry. Well, there was some improvement, actually--now ifconfig -a at least sees the interface are re0:, but it always shows it as Status = no carrier. Is there some new driver I have to install separate...

Re: ethernet over usb

I tried a $10 Generic USB-Ethernet adapter with my FreeBSD Fit-PC2, and it wouldn't run above 10 mbits/second, so I bought a $39 Linksys unit, and it works fine at 100 mb/s.

The $10 one ran at full speed on our other unit, a Ubuntu 9.0.4 Fit-PC2, btw.

Changing graphics resolution in Ubuntu 9.0.4

My monitor on the Fit-PC2 is a bit fuzzy, and it complains periodically about my graphics resolution not being set for optimum of 1680 x 1050 pixels. I don't see how to tell Ubuntu 9.0.4 to go to that resolution. Any clues?

The monitor is a cheapo Envision 22" Widescreen unit.

Re: Uptime and Stability

Hi, Fluffy, We've had two of these for a couple of months now I think, and one has been working as a web server under FreeBSD for the entire time, almost... Until a few days ago, when we had a UPS failure and discovered to our dismay that there is no auto-boot on power-fail feature, we've been up co...

Re: Just tried to install FreeBSD on Fit-PC2

Downloading the 7.2 DVD image now--I'll try it on my Fit-PC2 and let you know.
