Re: CompuLab will announce fitlet on 14-Jan

Perhaps I'm just not seeing it, but when can we start ordering them?

Warning (possibly) about Watchdog under Linux

I want to first qualify this by pointing out that I'm not really qualified to definitively confirm my theory. It's based on observations and past experience with micro-controllers. I've been using an eBox (now called Zentyal) server for over a year now, running on a FitPC2i. It has worked for the mo...

Are the cases metal or plastic?

Perhaps I missed it as I was browsing the specs, but I see that the FitPC3 is available in the orignal case (smooth) and a ribbed case. What's not clear is whether these are plastic or metal cases. Also, is the case designed to be mounted on a wall, or the back of a monitor? (ie. does it have mounti...

Re: Mounting to metal cabinet

I tried an experiment that had a noticeable improvement: I removed the wooden shelf from the cupboard I keep the FitPC2i in and replaced it with a metal wire shelf. This allows the unit to be air-cooled from the bottom as well as the top. As for the suggestion of using a metal bracket over the top o...

Re: What's the secret to getting into the BIOS?

Wow. What were the chances of having two keyboards on which the F2 key didn't work? The third keyboard is OK and I can now get into the BIOS. Why can't I get that kind of luck with lottery tickets?

What's the secret to getting into the BIOS?

Lets see, I've tried tapping F2 repeatedly during boot up; holding it down continually during boot up; holding it down before turning on the power and keeping it down during boot up; pressing it once and only once after the splash screen appears; changing keyboards and doing everything above again; ...

Re: Ethernet suddenly died

Wow. That's disturbing. I just received my FitPC2i yesterday and within an hour had lost one of the ethernet ports. I had presumed that heat had damaged something and was about to contact technical support. How can I trust this thing for a remote installation if it does this and won't reset itself w...

Re: Diskless linux using SD card and ramdisk on 2GB FitPC2i?

Actually, I did some research on this and discovered PuppyLinux which does exactly this except it copies the linux file system to ramdisk and runs it from RAM, rather than the SD card. You are given the option of saving changes to the SD card on shutdown. It's mostly what I want but I'd rather have ...

Diskless linux using SD card and ramdisk on 2GB FitPC2i?

Has anyone tried running Linux from an SD card, using (say) a 1GB ram disk so as to dispense with the hard disk? Is this even a sane idea? I'm a bit concerned about the amount of heat the FitPC2i is producing, but I gather that a substantial amount of it comes from the hard disk and video. I want to...
