booting xp from SD card

Post by Juan »

Hi,

I need to know if the pc2 can boot from the SD card with an xp image loaded on it.

I don't want a hard drive option as the environment that the unit will run in is prone to vibration and temperature in the region of 50 deg C.

Windows XP cannot boot from SD.
The recommended storage for high temperature/vibration is SSD.

Does the PC2 come with an option for SSD?

Is 8G enough? No other option?

I know you get the standard 120G SSD that is so common.

Xp is around 3G.

Installing SSD in fit-PC2 is very easy. We are offering only a very cost-effective SanDisk pSSD, but you are welcome to order without storage and purchase the SSD separately.

high temperature/vibration
I use industrial grade CF cards for that purpose. It's a bit awkward because we have native pata support on the fitPC2 but using a pata-sata-adaptor and then use a sata-cf-adaptor (cf interace is identically to pata) on top of it, but it works quite well.

8GB should be enough for XP. I am running a couple of different linux based distros on 8GB CF cards, including fully fledged desktop ones, just fine. If you are going with vista or windows 7, you might be better off buying a "normal" ssd.
