Windows 8 anyone?

Duh, no control panel, or really hard to locate. OK, Windows 8 comes with a vesa only driver for the gma 500. You locate a forum on installing the EMGD driver for W8, and the advice is to run the latest Intel EMGD driver (from October, 2012) in Windows XP-SP3 compatibility mode. Which seems to work, except for flash, which sees 1024x768, not the correct magic resolution. Analog sound still not available on the analog (headphone) output, though Windows assures us that it ought to work. I guess I can use the external audio device and hope that the flash plugin can eventually be found and its properties adjusted for 16:9.

The main problem with the audio driver seems to be that the patch program, ChCfg.exe simply does not work under Windows 8, supervisor mode or not.

Bad advice on that internet forum: Use administrator privilege to install the most recent Intel EMGD driver, and it all goes smoothly without any compatibility issues. I am talking about going to the Intel web site for the gma500 and downloading from there. The older EMGD driver from the fit pc downloads site does not install using administrator privilege. I gave up on the sound driver, though, and am using a usb audio dongle until I can figure out a way to get the built-in sound chip's sound working.

Gee, this firefox text box is very slow. I ended up editing in notepad and pasting the text in. Tsk, tsk, you guys.
