Signal detected as excellent, but connection fails at all attempts. Mint Admin says no proprietary drivers installed. Have switched off Bluetooth. Mintbox 2 (UK 02Dec2014) Serial 1140807-01218. WLAN0 to Netgear WGR614 using WPA, and correct key (password). Is this a hardware fault or a driver problem?

Probably something with the Wireless module. Please check your email.

Thanks fit-PC support by email: replaced RTL8723AE but proved not a hardware fault. Still an encryption conflict with router Netgear WG614 using WPA. Solved for me by using Netgear WG111 USB adapter with this router, which is fine with Mint 17.1. Neither Network-Manager or WICD packages could get a connection using the RTL with this (old/legacy?) router.

Late new information: Wi-Fi solution to set the Netgear Router WGR614v9 to Channel 11 (supplied on Channel 6). These routers supplied by Virgin Media cable company are modified from standard Netgear but can be accessed per Netgear instructions (online). Mintbox2 Wi-Fi now connects normally.
