fitlet-A10 performance

Post by eroihn »

Your performance comparison chart http://www.fit-pc.com/web/wp-content/up ... ab-PCs.jpg doesn't list the A10 models. It would be nice, if they were added.

Also, the steep price step from fitlet-B to fitlet-i is too bad. Does AMD really charge that much more for the faster SoC models? Since the A10 models don't seem to use different boards from the A4 models and still cost $68 more, I assume that the altered board design and and extension card in fitlet-i, when compared to fitlet-B, cost about $49, if the price step from E1 to A4 is the same as from A4 to A10. I think, it would have been better to have all fitlets use the same boards and thus allow the same extension cards for either model. That way, a $178 model "fitlet-iE1" could have been realized, which would probably have found a lot of interested people, whose computational performance needs are low but who would have appreciated the extra connectivity, especially to eSATA. Maybe this could be considered for a future product.

There are other differences. The model I has;
  • Second Gigabit Ethernet port
  • Powered eSATA, (USB 2.0 + 6Gbps eSATA in 1 connector)
  • WiFi via miniPCIe card, with 2 external antenea, (model B has USB WiFi)
As for the SoC, B models have;
  • 2 cores instead of 4
  • Radeon R2 graphics instead of R3
  • In one place they state no RS-232 serial port, other places don't mention it
  • No mention of SIM card for cell-phone type wireless
So all in all, perhaps model Is do have enough extra to justify the cost.

This is the updated performance chart

the steep price step from fitlet-B to fitlet-i is too bad.
We are doing our best with pricing. There is significant cost difference between the A4 and A10.
We realize that we could see higher demand with a $178 model but it is not sustainable to offer a model at that price.
no RS-232 serial port
fitlet-B does not have RS232. There is another feature in model i/X - GPIOs and SMBUS that is yet to be explained in more detail.

I know that graphics performance is not the main concern, but out of curiosity do you have any 3DMark numbers? Something that could allow to comparison with an Intel Graphics, such that we could refer to tables like the one below:
