How is fitlet battery used?

Post by sundqjan »

I tested to unplug the CMOS battery on the fitlet-B.
It looks like everything is working fine anyway.
For what is the battery used?

The reason I unplugged the battery was that it happened once that my fitlet didn't start up automatically; Instead the BIOS setup started. This was just happening once, but it's a bit critical since we want to use it in an environment where it must start automatically after power failure. By removing the battery I thought I should be able to reproduce the problem, but since it now works also with battery unplugged, we are a bit puzzled...
Any ideas why BIOS setup started ?
By the way, we measured the voltage to 3,06V. What should be the voltage on battery when fully charged?

When fitlet is disconnected from power the battery feeds real-time clock and keeps NVRAM data of customized BIOS settings.
Without the battery fitlet can boot with default BIOS settings and unsynchronized RTC.

The nominal voltage of the battery is 3V.
