LAN Interfaces Not Visible in OS

I bought a fitlet2 (E3950) directly from fit-iot.com, planning on using it as a small form factor pfSense router, but I've hit a snag. The Ethernet interfaces are not visible in any OS. I've combed through the BIOS, and can't find any option that would enable or disable the LAN interfaces.
I've tested with pfSense, which halts on first boot because it can't find any interfaces. I then tried FreeBSD, which boots and runs fine, but looking at dmesg.boot gives no hint that the hardware has any Ethernet connectivity. I also tested with Debian, which seems to be able to discern that the hardware has an Ethernet adapter, but shows it as disabled in dmidecode.

So far it's looking like an RMA situation, but I figure I'd check here first just in case someone has any knowledge on the issue.

Please provide the P/N of the machine as printed on the bottom cover's white sticker.

Also perhaps it's worth to run a BIOS reset, please follow the troubleshooting guide:

Testing with Mint leads to the same conclusion as Debian unsurprisingly, dmidecode shows Ethernet, but is still labeled as "disabled". ifconfig only shows loop-back.
I re-flashed the BIOS before when testing, but have also just done it under Mint with no success. I can only assume this is a hardware level fault at this point.

If the behavior remains the same with the tests done, then please proceed with scheduling an RMA for your machine.

I am having a similar issue. I see one Ethernet port, but not the other. I have tried a BIOS reset, but no luck there. I have not done a BIOS update/flash.
I have a different box, where the other port is the one missing ... how should I proceed?

Please perform the following steps:
1. prepare bootable device with EFI shell following steps 1 to 5 at the "Preparing the USB Flash Drive with BIOS Updater" section in the below guide:

2. Perform steps 1-4 from the "Updating BIOS" section.
3. At this point you should be in front of an EFI shell - please type "PCI"
4. Reply back to here with the results.
This test shows of the Ethernet controller is recognized by the system.
Prior to the above you could also perform an RTC reset which could help, consult the troubleshooting guide at:

Sorry for the slow reply, fighting fires on a few fronts ... we now have a few of the 25 we purchased that have this issue.
I have tried updating the BIOS, doesn't seem to have an effect on if it will continue to happen.
I have the output from the EFI, and there is only one Ethernet controller listed there. The BIOS Reset using the RTC button doesn't work. We are able to remove the battery and the Ethernet adapter will come back, but the problem will come back within a few power cycles.

We are very concerned about this, we cannot continue to build a fleet of embedded equipment where these issues repeatedly happen and on such a small sample of Fitlet2's. Of course these are embedded systems and so it is unreasonable to ask the customer to dissect the equipment. How can we proceed, I feel we can easily reproduce the problem if that helps at all.

We are not familiar with common reliability issues as you described with this platform.
Unfortunately it does seem like there's some sort of HW issue with your evaluation unit which apparently should be RMA'd.
That being said, you could expect much less failure rate of units from series production.

Thank you @tamir that is great news! I was hoping that was the case.
You mention "series production" ... are the units we have not "series production"? I wasn't thinking we had evaluation units, vs series productions; is there a difference?
I will proceed with RMA for the Fitlet2's that have displayed this problem

@tamir we are having more and more problems with these, I now have 3 bad ones ... is there a way I can escalate this problem?
