BIOS backup/restore

Post by edavid »

I need to make the same BIOS settings changes on multiple fitlet2
For a few of them it's ok, but for potentially dozens or more it becomes problematic

The idea would be to make the changes on one fitlet2, backup the bios and restore it on the others using a live cd or even remotely.

I tried to use http://flashrom.org/ for this without success

Code: Select all

~# flashrom -p internal -r fw.bkp
flashrom v0.9.9-r1954 on Linux 4.9.0-7-amd64 (x86_64)
flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org

Calibrating delay loop... OK.
No DMI table found.
WARNING: No chipset found. Flash detection will most likely fail.
No EEPROM/flash device found.
Note: flashrom can never write if the flash chip isn't found automatically.
is there a standard way of doing this using flashrom or other tools?

1. According to the flashrom application support hardware page (https://www.flashrom.org/Supported_hardware), flashrom doesn't support Apollo Lake SOC.
Also, the flashrom doesn't support the SPI flash AT25SL128A that is used in the fitlet2.

2. The SPI flash content can be dumped to the file and refleshed to another unit using the AfuEfi application.

3. We do not recommend to preform the reflashing of the dumped firmware, because it contains the unique data related to the particular system: TXE data, TPM data, Secure Boot data, SMBIOS data (serial numbers, UUID).

4. Unfortunately, these operations were never tested by us or by AMI and we can't guarantee that the system will continue to work correctly after the firmware reflashed.

5. You may order the BIOS with customized BIOS menu settings, please see https://s3.amazonaws.com/fit-iot/misc/r ... -terms.pdf
