No USB VGA unless HDMI plugged in

Post by markt »

Hi

I intend to use my Fit PC with one sole VGA monitor. I copied the USB 2.0 UGA software from the supplied disc onto a USB drive. I have then installed it and set the USB display to be the default main screen and all seemed fine.

I have discovered that when I boot the Fit PC without the HDMI cable connected to a monitor (TV) the USB VGA display will not come on. If I then connect via HDMI, the USB VGA starts up, then takes over and works fine.

I intend to use the PC in an environment where there are no monitors with HDMI available.

Any advice much appreciated.

The solution is as follows:

Go to Display Properties --> Settings

For each display there are two check boxes,
1) Use this display as primary
2) Extend my windows onto this display.

For the USB monitor you need to make sure BOTH boxes are Checked.
For the DVI/HDMI monitor you need to make sure both are UNCHECKED.

Once you've done this and clicked 'Apply' the DVI/HDMI display will turn off and the USB display will be Primary, even after removing the HDMI cable from the back of the PC, and will remain so when the PC is re-booted.

I hope that helps.
