Minor re-wiring suggestion for HDMI compatibility

Post by vtailor »

If you plug the DVI-X into an HDMI device like a modern television set, you get a good picture and a ground loop hum from the HDMI audio circuitry in the television. The reason probably is some kind of open circuit in the fit-pc2 where the digital audio wires ought to be for HDMI. It sounds as if shorting out the DVI-X sound wires ought to trick the HDMI television set into a zero-gain, no hum, operation, allowing the SPDIF output from the fit-pc2(i) to go through an SPDIF to analog converter connecting to component analog plugs that go into the component analog connectors of the HDMI device. In other words, a quick and dirty fix for HDMI compatibility.

The working terms are HDMI compatibility retaining DVI-X connection correctness and allowing digital sound driven analog output.

It is a little bit hard to understand why are you converting the SPDIF signal to an analog. You have an analog output (marked with a headphones sign) on a FitPC2.

Thank you for updating the "hum" solution

The analog output works in Linux, and on occasion in Windows 7, but it is very slow, so that lipsyncing does not occur. The SPDIF converter is much faster, and allows lipsyncing. The USB device nearly allows lipsyncing. You must not use the fit-pc2 as a media box, or you would notice. All these problems would go away if the DVI-D connector was set up as an HDMI connector which automatically leaves it backwards compatible to the old DVI-D setup, including use of the Compulab DVI-D to vga converter.

Well, hey, who needs lipsyncing anyway, much less a Windows 7 desktop that works flawlessly.

For comparison, here is a URL to your only competition, an MSI fanless with a z530 and an HDMI connector in back:

I don't care what anyone says, the Intel z5xx series with the gma500 outdoes the more recent cedarviews in picture quality.

FitPC2 was designed to be a small, and extremely low power. Please compare the dimensions, power consumption and the price tag
