USB Video 7" Samsung Model U70

I am attempting to use a Samsung USB LCD MODEL u70 but am have difficulties.
Hardware Platform: FIT-2 by Compulab
Processor: Intel ATOM Z530 @ 1.6 GHz
OS: Microsoft Windows XP home SP3
I rellay don't know if this is an issue withthe FIT-2 or the USB video driver or cmpatabiity of the two.

1) It appears that the only screen resolution that the Samsung USB video controller supports is the native screen resolution of , 800x480. If I try and display a dialog that has a size of 800 x 600 with the USB monitor enabled, then scroll bars are displayed which SHOULD allow viewing of the portion larger than the 480 vertical pixels. However instead of scrolling down to this part of the image, the scroll bar only allows you to scroll to blank image (e.g. the lower portion is erased).
2) To get around this problem it is possible to sort of “disable” the USB monitor limitations by setting up the display parameters as follows:
a. To set this up a digital display MUST be attached to the FIT-2 and configured as the PRIMARY display.
b. “1) Default Monitor on Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500-4”, “resolution = 800x600”, “use this device as primary monitor” IS checked, extend my windows desktop onto this IS checked
c. “2) Samsung UbiSynch Monitor”, “resolution = 800x480”, “use this device as primary monitor” is NOT checked, extend my windows desktop onto this is NOT checked
d. With this setup the display setup reports that the USB monitor is disabled but actually it is working. One strange thing is that when you use the ID button BOTH displays report themselves as “1”. The portion of the image which is larger than the screen can be displayed by moving the cursor to the edge of the screen and the entire display scrolls to the “hidden” portion. No scroll bars are displayed. This is actually very nice.
e. After this is setup you can turn off and remove the primary display and everything continues to function UNTILL YOU REBOOT THE FIT-2!
f. UNFORTUNATELY when the Fit-2 is rebooted the primary display defaults back to 800x480, the native resolution of the Samsung USB monitor. I could not figure out a way to get back to the previous condition without hooking the higher resolution DVI monitor back up and rebooting the FIT-2 with it attached.
3) If you play around with this it is easy to get into a situation where you change the screen resolution then cannot see the “APPLY” button to change the screen resolution or even get out of the setup dialog. In this case remember you can use keyboard character “A” to accept a new screen resolution even when you cannot see the button.

I do not have much experience with display issues.
Does any one have any suggestions?
Any thoughts on weather setting the screen resolution programmatically (either inside a C++ program or with a script) be a solution?
If so does anyone know how to do it?
This monitor interfaces and gets power through the USB ports (it requires two ports).
It is a really slick companion to the FIT-2 if it can be made to work without the limitation of 800-480 native resolution.

I'm not sure about the settings for the Samsung monitor, but you may be interested to hear that we've begun retailing a 7" USB monitor in the UK from a company called Nanovision - it has been tested thoroughly with Fit-PC2 and works seamlessly straight out of the box.

If you're interested in further details, please go to www.fit-pc.co.uk.

With the Samsung I don't know how the provided display driver and GMA500 play together. You may disable the GMA500 driver to see if it has effect.

I am using the Samsung U70 with the FitPC2 as you described. I was able to use it by installing Display Link drivers. I got the U70 to display in the right resolution (800 by 480) And set it as the primary monitor.

However when I disconnect the DVI monitor (monitor 1) and reboot, it still searches for the DVI monitor, and nothing is displayed on the usb monitor (U70). I want to use the U70 as my only monitor. Can I somehow disable the other monitor and have it go to the USB monitor at boot up time?

May I ask what drivers you use and any special settings you had to make?

I have been reading up on this forum. Do I need to install fit-pc2_ieg1_no_detection.zip to use my Samsung U70 as the only monitor? I am using the Display Link drivers. I get a good 800 by 480 display on the U70, but it won't show up without the DVI main monitor installed. I want to use my U70 as the only monitor.

I got it working. Just disabled the other monitor. The USB monitor doesn't display until Windows XP is up, but I can live with that. Thanks for the tips.

I spoke too soon. I disabled the main monitor and now when I boot up, neither monitor comes on. The one that uses the DVI port or the one that uses the USB port. How do I restore back to the point where I can get some display working? Right now I have neither display. Is there some bios setting that forces it to boot to the USB monitor automatically? How do I even get into the bios?
