2.5" SATA II SSD work?

Post by joshswenson »

I would like to purchase a fit-pc2, but I would like a solid state hard drive with Windows 7. I don't see this as one of the options, so I'm considering purchasing the "fit-PC2i 2GB/2GHz Diskless" and purchasing a larger solid state hard drive that will accommodate the OS size of Windows 7. I'm trying to figure out if the following hard drive will work with the fit-pc2. Any ideas or suggestions?

Patriot Inferno PI60GS25SSDR 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

The majority of SSDs work with fit-PC2. We haven't tested this specific model.

I tested this disk for a few hours and did not find any issues so far - the disk seems to be working fine. Here are CrystalDiskMark results on Windows XP:

Does fit-PC2 controller support TRIM command for SSD?

No. The native controller in US15W chipset is IDE - connected to hard disk through a SATA bridge so TRIM is not supported.

My understanding is that TRIM mode can work with an IDE controller.

My testing of a fit-pc2, with an SSD drive that supports the TRIM function, is that the TRIM function *does* work. The test shows that after deleting a file, it is automatically reset to all-zero, which indicates that the TRIM function is working.
