SATA to CF adapter

Post by Trever »

Are there any recommendations for a SATA to CF adapter that could be installed inside the fit-PC2? Something like this:

Thanks.

Another example:

Seems clear such a thing should (in theory anyways) work just fine...

Anyone try these or similar?

Thanks.

I recommend opting for SATA SSD.
fit-PC2 converts from IDE to SATA. Converting back to IDE/CF doesn't sound right.

I understand, but I have in mind primarily read only applications, including something as extreme as just getting the kernel and filesystem into memory at boot and then being done with it (read only at boot), running from memory thereafter. I would prefer to burn the bits onto the CF from the fit-PC2 though, so some writing when system images are installed or updated occassionally.

Has anyone actually tried the SATA to CF adapter's in a fit-pc2? It may not sound right, but wondering if it can work for scenarios like this?

Thanks!

Hello Trever,

We are going to test your last option next week. It should work. Only issue will be to make nice sleeve in housing for CF card.

Thanks I'd love to know how it turns out.

FYI the link above (http://www.itechnews.net/2008/06/13/san ... enclosure/) is for a product available on Amazon for $30, and it has what appears to be a nice enclosure with dimensions precisely those of a 2.5" hard drive. I was hoping that would tuck nicely into the fit-PC2.

30$ for the enclosure then another 15$ for 4GB CF card or another 30$ for 2 cards (total 8GB). So it's 45-60$ for 4-8GB storage.
For 45$ you can buy 8GB SATA SSD which is better than CF card + enclosure. For 60$ you can buy 16GB SATA SSD. For 80$ you can buy 32GB SATA SSD.

Yes I understand that logic and looked into it already, but I need to purchase via Amazon which doesn't seem to have the cheap SSD's (post a link if you can find one!), so extra cost is more like $100-150, and besides I have a large handful of CF cards already, AND can use the SATA/CF adapter elsewhere, etc. It's just a personal preference to use that if it works well enough for my needs...

Aside from being required to purchase from Amazon (can't really understand why are you bound to it?), you are of course free to use any solution that will work (even if it's not the cheapest one).

When I am thinking "cheap" I am usually thinking "eBay".

SATA enclosure for CF card (20$ incl. shipping): http://cgi.ebay.com/SATA-TO-CF-UDMA-Ada ... dZViewItem

32GB SATA 2.5" SSD hard disk (90$ incl. shipping): http://cgi.ebay.com/PQI-DK9320GD3R000A0 ... dZViewItem
