Memory problem?

Post by johan »

Since a few days now I randomly get:

Corrupted MAC on input.
Disconnecting: Packet corrupt

while using rsync to transfer data on my FitPC2. Various google searches suggest that this is a hardware (memory) problem. Is there any way to have the memory of a fit-pc2 replaced? The alternative would be to buy a new fit-pc2 and that is something I dont want to do really since the machine itself is working just fine (not to mention the financial aspect).

Hello

Can you please attach a print screen with this error?

The memory is soldered on the FitPC2's board, therefore it can't be replaced. You can use the memtest86 tool to check if there is a memory problems

A screen shot would be hard to do in this case as I get emails from the backup process that has these errors. More over, the 2 lines I posted in my earlier post are the only lines of text shown.

I will run memtest86 asap (will require some time as its a daily used machine).

Is it possible for RAM to start showing errors out of the blue? Can it physically break from usage?

Generally speaking there is no wearing of RAM, but it may malfunction - all electronic components might.

The best way to identify RAM issues is with memtest as gabrielh suggested above.
