I join the ranks of people curious about the Fit-PC2's ability to operate in master mode, needed to set it up as an AP. With this, it will be the ultimate combination of AP + NAS gateway + router + BitTorrent client.

(I own a Fit-PC Slim, very pleased with everything about it. The wifi on that one is rt73usb, which does not do master mode at the moment).

The ordering page has been updated with a wireless chipset: Realtek RTL8187L.
I did not think this card supported master mode?
This is a USB / small device chipset, so if there is a driver to make it do master mode, it could be used for FitPC slim or regular?

I did some research on the RTL8187 chipset.
It seems that master mode (required to run as an access point) is supported in Windows [1,2], but I have only found people complaining about no master mode support in the Linux driver [3].
I am still searching, hoping to find that master mode has been implemented over time...

So, It's hard to find more informations about this chip, but this
link http://www.rfglobalnet.com/article.mvc/ ... TCOOKIE=NO says client only.
This looks really bad.

This thread has more then 1300 views. So AP mode seems to be very important.

Is it for CompuLab possible to add to Order form combination
"fit-PC2 Diskless 1.6 GHz, 1GB RAM, no-WiFi" ?

For anyone who is interested in purchasing the above configuration - 1.6GHz, Diskless, No WiFi, we are offering it from the UK at www.fit-pc.co.uk.

If you are not in the UK, other distributors closer to you may be offering it, but if they are not we are happy to ship throughout Europe - for shipping rates please see our website.
