Hi,

Just noticed today that the USB ports are actually powered even when the fit-PC2 is switched off. Not really a good idea for external hard drives perhaps.

Hi Irads,

Thanks I looked at the other messages about the USB power and I am a bit surprised about your reply.
You say the conventional way is to shut the USB devices down. I beg to disagree, there is nothing conventional in that. To my knowledge this is the first computer I have ever seen that supplies USB power when shut down and I think it is something you should consider to be changed in future models.

In my case for example I plan to have 2 or more external HD's permanentry connected to the USB ports. Since I don't want them to spin forever I will have to use an external circuit breaker to switch off the computer. Then when I want to start it again I have to switch both that and the internal switch on. Very awkward indeed.

In many computers (but not all) the USB power supply is connected directly to the 5V rail.

Disks can be spinned-down with a command during shutdown.

Buyers can select a fit-PC2 with auto-on that does not require pressing the power button after power cut.
