Fit-PC2 Optimized Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD available

Post by startit_ltd »

Hi,

A made a remaster of Ubuntu 9.10 with fit-pc2 kernel and drivers.
It is an installable livecd, so, you can use it to install ubuntu 9.10 into your fit-pc2(i).

Extras:
- fit-pc2 kernel and drivers
- xorg iegd driver
- mplayer-vaapi
- English/Hungarian
- transparency and mac like window navigator included
- fresh packages (until 03/04/2010)
- There is a README.html in your desktop, check it out please.

Notes:
- Openoffice removed to reduce the size of the CD.
- You should adjust your screen size, autodetecting not working.
- You can write out to a pendrive.....

Here is the link. Updated to the new one, see below.

IMPORTANT UPDATE on 28/04/10
I built a newer livecd, where I put google chromium, too.

Transparency
I forgot to tell you, you have to run xcompmgr, which will make it work.

New livecd to download
Ubuntu 9.10.4 Fit-PC2 remaster
MD5 checksum for the iso

Changes
  • Keepassx included to keep your passwords in safe
Chromium browser to get a really quick, but memory hungry browser
Back in time to make backup in easy way from your files
xcompmgr to get real transparency effects (needed by avant)
Avant Window Navigator for MacLike panel
    Openoffice full
    Midnight Commander :D
    several dependencies....
English/Hungarian language packs, some others too
-------------------------------------------

Please report here your results, thank you!

Hi,

Normally it is necessary to detect the chipset itself. I have no fit-pc2i in my hand, but I am sure, there is no problem with Hitachi hdd nor Samsung for example.
Any drive which is supported by the bios should work.

Good luck!

Thank you!
Please do it, it seems, the openoffice still on the livecd :)

Anyway, in general this 9.10 is not the best ubuntu distribution..... my opinion....

Thank you for your feedback!
I am happy you find it useful :)

Regarding the server, you mean, using the server release? Only depends on my time....

I had a bad time trying to make the hdd detected at install.
Your custom cd saved me. Unfortunately on the fitpc2i, I guess only the fitpc linux kernel can make it to be detected.
I wish I could make a custom cd just like you did but for the ubuntu server release. But if you have time for this I think that many people could get use of it:

Do not forget to use the all_generic_ide option at boot time....

Regarding the server release, I do not promise, it will be ready in 1 day, but I keep your mention in my mind.....
I will announce it here, when it will be ready to download....
