On the livecd the initial password is empty (auto scrambled) with auto login. So, you do not really need password.

When you will start the installation, you can setup your username and password.
This is a standard ubuntu installation process, you can use this tutorial:

the usb key booted, devices are mounted, even usb devices, then
the booting stop because it does not find "root"

some highlights are proposed by the program itself:
such as missing module, variant arguments for booting etc.

I 'm new at linux, does this error means the harddrive is not detected
(sda seems to be mounted)

well as for me the linux adventure stop here.
I'll try to put the iso on another key when I have time.

cheers.

Try to remove all usb devices, except the boot pendrive.

Other question is, how did you write out the iso to the pendrive? The easiest way is using ubuntu linux and the tool provided by ubuntu itself :)

Sorry, I am not really familiar with windows in this case, for my personal needs windows world too difficult and risky....

Maybe others can give you a hint how to write out an iso image to pendrive under windows..... Anybody?

hey I disconnected every usb devices, and the booting apparently continued,
but now I have another stupid problem, the resolution is set automatically on something way out of my good old crt and my brand new lcd screen,
does the install is not supposed to be complete on a very standard resolution?
because I can't see a thing, I can't complete the install....

Yeah, this is one potential problem.
I setup it to 1024x768... somehow the auto-detecting the monitor does not work for me with 9.10.

Hmmm, I should find a way to autodetect the monitor....
What kind of monitors do you have?
Do you see anything on the screen?
Did you try the auto adjust on your monitor? Probably you only have to stretch the screen on your monitor....

I don't see anything on the screen,
I don't trust lcd, because those not support a lot of resolution,
but this good old crt used to support a lot of resolutions
including of course 1024x768,
but yes does'nt work, and the monitor itself display a message,
nothing is displayed, so I don't have any chance of clicking somewhere, even with a glitchy resolution.

is there a key that can be hitten, to change the resolution, or another workaround?

Try to start the livecd not the install mode.
After a long time, when usb drive stops blinking, try to switch to the text console by pressing CTRL+ALT+F1.
In this case it should change to the command line.
Now you can set a password for your ubuntu user and after that you can issue 'sudo nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf' and edit the resolution line somewhere at the bottom.

You can change the resolution for example to only "800x600" and restart gdm:
sudo killall gdm
gdm
And now it will try to start the graphical interface with the new setting.
You can switch to terminal by pressing the CTRL+ALT+F1 and to the graphical screen by pressing CTRL+ALT+F7 (or F8)....
CTRL only really necessary when you in graphical screen.....

(I did not try these commands at the console. Not really step-by-step instruction, sorry about it).
Anyway, good to practice linux :)

Try to select the 'Safe graphics mode' at boot time (press F4 and select the Safe graphics mode).

bhaaa can't make it work,
change the file to 800x600 had no effect since it doesn't find
any gdm running.f4 doesn't worked too.

yes it would be cool to be autodetected, or, to force install in console mode
then to reboot with a very standard reolustion.
I say that, but I think you put a lot of eforts in this. Thanks anyway.

I am really sorry about that....
You should use 'ps ax' and kill the right process using 'kill ID_NUMBER'

It would be easier if I were sit behind your desk :)

I try to fix this issue in the next "release". It will take (spare)time.

If anybody has idea, please tell me :)

gashiss, do not give up. You are on the right way to learn something different. Not as bad as seems, just play with it.
