Fedora 14 i686 on fit-PC2

Post by dowdle »

Fedora 14 officially comes out in 6 days but since I'm somewhat involved with the project and have my own Fedora remix... I've been keeping up with Fedora 14 development and have the release early.

I made a Fedora 14 LiveUSB and booted it on the fit-PC2 and it works fairly well. I have tried the last few Fedora releases but they would always crash during boot. With Fedora 14 it boots fine.

The only annoyance is that it doesn't properly detect the monitor I am using. I'm guessing this is because of the HDMI adapter because when I use the monitor with other Fedora boxes, it detects the monitor just fine. I'm using a Dell 22" widescreen flat that has a max resolution of 1680x1050. With the "UNKNOWN" monitor detected the max resolution I get is 1280x1024 stretched to fit the widescreen so the aspect ratio is a bit off. I'm sure if I hooked it up to a 4:3 ratio monitor it would be better. The display is actually sharp and bright so I can't complain too much. I haven't tried generating an xorg.conf file explicitly setting the resolution. As to be expected, the video is quite choppy but usable and of course I don't have any accelerated 3D.

The hard drive is detected just fine and I was able to do an install from the LiveUSB media to the hard drive.

Sound and wired networking work just fine. I didn't try the wireless.

So if anyone wants to use Fedora on the fit-PC2, it looks like Fedora 14 is a winner. I haven't been using it very long and this is a preliminary report... but I'll give it more time and come back with a follow-up report in the a few days / weeks.

Just to clarify, I'm only using the stock Fedora packages and have not hacked with kernel nor video settings at all and it just works out of the box.

You might want to have a look at [1] for enabling the gma500 gpu including basic 3d and hardware video acceleration. For the xorg.conf you should have a look at the one provided by Compulab. Maybe this one works out of the box. If not, generate your own xorg.conf and play around with the Device-Section using these Options:
Option "NoPanel" "true"
Option "NoDcc" "yes"
and in Section DRI:
Mode 0666

Hi ,
Option "NoDcc" "yes"
"NoDcc" looks like "NoDDC".
Option "NoDDC"
Source : 5. xorg.conf Option

I'm wasting much time for the typo as freezing X-server. :)
