Beep?

I have had Fit-PC Slim a few years now. I run it as a Linux server and it has been working well, but now it started to make a beeping sound. The interval of the sound is random (from few minutes to hours). Does anyone have any idea what could cause this sound?

fit-PC Slim does not have built-in sound. If the noise comes from the fit-PC itself and not from speakers - then it must be the hard disk. Usually the sound is "clicking" and not "beep". This indicates that the hard disk is aging - it would be good to backup all important files you have on it, and prepare to replace the hard disk in the future.

My Fit-PC is not connected to speakers, so that's not the problem. It took some time even to locate the source of these mysterious "beeps"
Anyway you are probably right, the hard drive is at it's end. Thank you for your fast reply.
Is there any recommendations or limitations for a new hard drive? Anything else than that it should fit in the Fit-PC?

Hard disk should be IDE, 2.5", standard thickness - 9.5mm.
It is recommended to use 5400RPM or less to keep cool.
