Yes, on Windows 7 I could see the hardware and I could enable/disable it.
Most of the time I kept it disabled on Win7, since I normally use cabled connection.
Now I am not sure that I enabled it before installing Mint. Could it be the reason why Linux doesn't see the device?

Hi, I just tried with Mint live and the WLAN works correctly with it.
Please find attached the lspci and dmesg logs for this case.

May I then just revert to the original Mint kernel by apt-get? Could you give me a hint here?
I don't want to reinstall the operating system since I have spent much time to configure it as a server.
What I would lose compared to the custom fitPC2 kernel?

I think some how you disabled the WiFi card. If the live version was able to recognize the WiFi card, it eliminates hardware problem, leaving us with the software one.

Could you please tell what are the differences between official Mint kernel and special kernel from Compulab's repository? Is it possible to use generic kernel? What issues would it cause?
Is it possible to use mplayer-vaapi with latest generic linux kernel?

I can confirm that switching back to the generic kernel via apt-get, I have the WLAN working.
The RTL8187 drivers are used in this case.
What I don't understand is: I thought fitPC2 had a rt3070 wireless adapter, but it appears that mine has a different hardware (RTL8187) ?

Hello again! I just opened my fitPC2 and found that I have a RTL8187L based wlan card inside (it looks like there are some fitPC2 versions using this chipset)...
Does this explain the problem I observed?
Actually at this point I would like to upgrade my WLAN card, buying a brand new Atheros-based one.
Would be then possible for me to recompile the kernel, to include the ath9k driver?
As I would like to keep the fitpc2-specific kernel optimizations, are there instructions available on how to build the source package from the fit-PC2 repository?
