Supported Linux variants?

Hi,
Might be nice to have a thread listing people's experience with various linux flavors (and the patches required).
Personally, Im looking at a fitpc3 for a home server, but a friend mention that it might need a custom kernel. (Im looking to run opensuse on the cute little thing).
Reading the docs, i see that there are instructions for a standard ubuntu install with later change of kernel (for full hw support i assume).
Are there any issues other than the need for video/kernel drivers (or is it only video drivers?).
Cheers,
