Door activated power on

Post by samstein »

I have a fit-pc that I need to power on/off based on a door opening/closing. I can fairly easily have the door trigger a relay which will in turn power up the fitPC taking advantage of the auto-on feature. However, my concern is the door closing and abruptly disconnecting power to the fitPC.

I started looking at some programmable relays that I could put in line between the power source and the fitPC. The programmable relay could power up the fitPC based on the door switch. I also have some general purpose IO board connected to the fitPC that I use for other monitoring. I could have the fitPC tell the relay to disconnect power after some delay when ready to shutdown.

Is this the way to go or is there a simpler way that I am overlooking?

I would suggest you to attach a relay to the power on/off button. It will power on the Fit-PC3 when needed, and gracefully shut it down, using the soft power off feature.
Please note, that the soft power off feature is OS depended, and some software may prevent the power off process.
