flash and netflix video / audio is jittery / stutters

Set up my new PC3 LP barebones last night. Added 4 GB RAM and a 160 GB hard disk. Hooked it to my TV via an HDMI cable [1]. Installed Ubuntu 12.04, updated everything, including the kernel. Used apt-get to install flashplugin-installer and netflix-desktop [2].

I then used Ubuntu's "Additional Drivers" GUI program to install the "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post-release updates)"

Watching a movie via mplayer from an m4v file on a thumb drive worked great [3].

But Flash and Netflix content is jittery / choppy and stutters intermittently. This happens even while using speedtest.net, which uses Flash. (The download speeds are good, FYI, up to 50 Mbps.) It's just that the whole Flash application freezes briefly then jumps to where it should be. The same thing happens while watching Netflix content, which is Silverlight, if I understand it correctly.

I tried the "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (**experimental** beta)" drivers too. No difference.

Any ideas, please?

Thanks,
