No more MAC address after Ethernet controller FW update

Hello,

I have updated the firmware of my fit-PC3’s Ethernet controller (to get PXE boot), according to these instructions.
The update ran fine, and the PXE boot option seems now functional.
However, the Ethernet controller seems to have lost its internal MAC address :

Code: Select all

% ethtool --show-permaddr eth0
Permanent address: 00:00:00:00:00:00
The PXE boot screen also shows “CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 00 00 00 00 00”.

The card works fine if the MAC address is changed after startup (but the setting is lost across reboots, of course)

Thanks for your help.

Okay, weird… I left the fit-PC3 unplugged for several hours and it seems the MAC address reappeared spontaneously
This allowed me to test PXE boot — works fine.
Hope this will help to understand the original problem ;-)

Is there any further update on this? I've installed the rtupd fix in order to get the fitPC to PXE boot and that is working fine. It has however set the Mac address to all zeroes and it doesn't seem to be fixing itself by me leaving it switched off for any specific length of time and/or unplugging the network cable

Cheers

Please power off your FitPC3 and then unplug the network cable. Leave it unpowered for a couple of minutes and power it back.

I've pretty much done every combination of powering it off/on with and without the network cable attached. Nothing seems to be bringing back the Mac address.

I had basically gotten through the entire network installation process before I noticed that the Mac address was all zeroes. I currently have a fully functional Win7 Pro machine. The only issue with it is the mac address
