Fedora 15 boot failure - BIOS problem

Post by cookman »

Fedora 15 was released with new linux kernel 2.6.38.7-30.fc15.i686.PAE in end May 2011.

Obviously there is a problem with this kernel that uses Physical Address Extension (PAE) and causes the boot procedure to fail with fitPC2 version 1.4.

The error message is as follows:
pci_root PNP0A08:00: address space collision: host bridge window [mem 0x000c0000 - 0x000dffff] conflicts with reserved [mem 0x000d0000 - 0x000ffff]

Upgrade of BIOS to the latest version does not solve the problem.

I expect that all other linux distros will sooner or later have the same problem, so my question to Compulab is if one can expect a solution to this problem (updated BIOS)?

Other people have lately reported the same problem with other PC manufacturers BIOS in certain PC models (and other new linux distros like slackware), see for example:
